Tiger Stadium

Tiger Stadium was built in 1952 during the administration of former President Dr. William Hill in response to a growing need for an on-campus facility. Until 1952, football and baseball games were played on McConnell Field, property of Livingston High School. Dr. Hill eyed a patch of land known as Crawdad Creek as an ideal spot for the proposed facility. He commissioned workers to displace the creek using large terra cotta pipes and had the hillsides cut down to create a flat surface for the new playing field. The original layout consisted of lower level general admission seating on the stadium’s west side, accommodating approximately 4,000 people. The facility was renovated in 1978 with 2,000 additional seats, including 720 reserved, and a modern press box. Supplementary bleacher seating was added to the stadium’s west side in 1998, allowing the University to accommodate 7,000 people for Tiger football and annual commencement ceremonies. Today, Tiger Stadium serves as a prominent campus landmark and a tribute to Dr. Hill’s vision for the future of the University and Tiger football.

Homer Field house, located just past the south end zone, also serves as the grounds for the Tiger football locker rooms as well as its weight room. The building also is the home to the football coaches' offices along with the Athletic Training Department.
