Tartt Field
Nestled neatly on the shores of
Lake L.U. in the heart of West Alabama's spacious campus, Tartt
Field has served as the perfect setting for Tiger baseball since
1969. With grassy banks hosting numerous luxury decks beyond its
outfield walls, a brand press facility serving as an ample backdrop
and a brand new dressing room, UWA's beacon of baseball is among the
most accommodating Division II facilities in the South today. The
Tigers also added a new backstop and indoor hitting facility (under
construction) in 2006, which only strengthens Tartt Field's appeal
as one of the elite facilities in all of Division II.
Tartt Field's groundwork was laid
in 1968, just in time for its 1969 inaugural season and dedication
in 1970. Since then, the ballpark and its surrounding
areas have blossomed with
improvements and modifications almost annually. The Park's most
prominent landmark, Lake L.U ., was constructed in 1977, while the
current outfield wall was added just before the 1992 season. It was rededicated on opening day 1994 and a
baseball Wall of Fame was
introduced with its first inductee, former Tiger All-American Jeff
Branson. Since 1996, a new warning track has taken shape, an
irrigation system installed, two state-of-the-art nine
scoreboards have been donated by Coca-Cola, and a spacious pressbox
added, named in honor of longtime booster, Mr. Lambert Tucker. A new
dressing room and home dugout was constructed for the 2002 season,
only making Tartt Field a more appealing place for college baseball.
Today, Tartt Field perennially
draws over 400 fans per game and is routinely among
the national leaders in Division II college baseball attendance.
In 2000,
the Tigers drew 2,019 fans for a game with the University
of Alabama that was a national Division II record at the time and
still holds the top spot in GSC history. With its newly hatched
press box, ample parking and fan-friendly atmosphere, UWA's Tartt
Field is sure to be an inviting venue for Conference and National
Tournaments for years to come.
