Dr. Don Medeiros took over as UWA's first
ever fulltime men's and women's cross country coach on
in Feb. of 2006. Medeiros came to UWA from the State
University of West Georgia.

Medeiros has guided the UWA squads to
greater heights since coming to the Livingston campus.
The UWA men finished sixth at the Gulf South Conference
Championship in 2008 along with a top-10 placement at
the NCAA South Regionals.
On the women's side, Medeiros' squad
turned in a program-best 10th-place spot at the GSC Meet
and followed that feat with a 13th-place finish in the
Regionals.
He was the head men’s and women’s
cross country coach at UWG from 1992-2006. During his
tenure, he led the UWG women to four GSC Titles (93, 94,
95 and 97), while also leading the UWG men to five
Conference Championships (93, 95, 97, 98 and 99). He
also led the West Georgia men to a South Regional
Championship in 1998 and guided the women to a Regional
Title in 2000.
Before serving as the cross country coach
at West Georgia, Medeiros was the head women’s tennis
coach at UWG from 1987-91, and led the 1991 women’s
squad to a GSC Title.
Medeiros received his degree in
Psychology from Santa Clara (Ca.) University in 1965,
before moving on to get his Ph.D., in Clinical
Psychology from Arizona State University in 1971. During
his time at West Georgia, he has taught several courses
and was named Associate Professor in 1987.
“This is a great opportunity for me, and
I am excited to get to UWA and get started,” said
Medeiros. “Two things I like very much about the job are
the opportunity to build a program still in its initial
stages, and I really like the small town atmosphere that
UWA provides. Also, Dr. Holland is very committed to the
athletic department, and wants to do everything in his
power to see us thrive.” |
