LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West
Alabama volleyball team
finished off a weekend sweep
by blanking Valdosta State,
3-0 on Saturday morning in
Pruitt Hall. With the win,
UWA moves to 4-0 in the Gulf
South Conference East
Division and maintains its
top spot in the division.
The win (25-15, 25-14,
25-21) over the Blazers
bumped the Tigers win streak
to 10 straight, which is
currently the longest string
of wins in the GSC. UWA
finished the week 3-0,
including a win over
in-state rival North Alabama
on Tuesday night. The Red
and White (19-5) will put
its win streak on the line
on Tuesday, Oct. 13 against
UAH.
For the second time in the
last three matches, UWA’s
Jessica Crook paced the
offense with a match-best 11
kills. The Ohatchee,
Ala.-native added one block
solo and four digs to her
credit. Seniors Jordan Kent
and Ana Gabriela Pedrosa
finished with nine kills
each in the contest. Junior
Thais Hollerbach turned in
seven kills and a team-high
12 digs. As a team, UWA
out-hit VSU .330 to .127 in
the affair and only had 10
total miscues.
VSU’s Irene Hannan led the
Blazers with ten kills,
while Chelsea Luttfring
carded a match-high 16
digs.
UWA closes out the home GSC
schedule against the
Chargers of UAH on Tuesday,
Oct. 13. Match time is set
for 7 p.m.
