LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West
Alabama volleyball team
equaled the best start to
Gulf South Conference play
with a 3-0 sweep of West
Georgia on Friday night at
Pruitt Hall.
A win Saturday over the
Blazers of Valdosta State on
Saturday would give UWA its
best conference start in the
program’s history. Match
time is set for 11 a.m. The
2007 squad holds the best
start in conference play
after starting the season
4-0.
The Tigers moved to 3-0 in
league play with the sweep
and stretched its win-streak
to nine-matches. The streak
is currently the longest in
the GSC. UWA handled the
Wolves with ease in the
opener 25-11, but found
itself in a tussle with UWG
in the second set before
taking the set, 25-22. The
Red and White clinched its
18th win of the
season with a 25-15
third-set win.
Senior Jordan Kent turned in
a match-best 12 kills on 20
total attempts. The
Decatur, Ala.-middle blocker
did not record an error in
the affair and posted a pair
of block solos. Senior
Jessica Crook finished with
11 kills and a block.
Seniors Ana Gabriela Pedrosa
and Brittney Cousin added
eight and seven kills
respectively. As a team,
UWA turned in a .353 hitting
percentage while holding UWG
to a -.064 mark and just 19
total kills in the contest.
Jasmine Dotson and Casey
Niles paced UWG (9-13, 0-4
GSC) with five kills each.
UWA continues home GSC
action on Saturday, taking
on Valdosta State in an 11
a.m. affair. The match will
precede UWA’s 6 p.m. home
football contest with
nationally-ranked Delta
