UWA's Crook Named GSC East Offensive Player of the Week

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –  West Alabama senior outside hitter/middle blocker Jessica Crook has been named this week’s Gulf South Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, announced on the league’s GSC Radio Live broadcast on Tuesday.

Crook earned the GSC honor after being the offensive catalyst for the Tigers in their three wins last week against North Alabama, West Georgia and Valdosta State.  Crook, a native of Ohatchee, Ala., turned in a team-best 39 kills and registered double figure kill totals in all three matches, including a team-high 17 against UNA last Tuesday.  She finished the week with an impressive .377 hitting percentage and only had ten miscues.  Against UWG, Crook was credited with 11 kills on 18 attempts.  Along with her offensive prowess, Crook added four total blocks, two of the solo variety.

Crook becomes the fifth UWA player awarded the GSC honor and sixth time this season UWA has claimed one of the weekly accolades.  Senior Ana Gabriela Pedrosa is a two-time GSC East Player of the Week selection.

UWA takes on UAH in a GSC East duel tonight at 7 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.  The Tigers will put their GSC-best ten match winning streak on the line along with the top spot in the division against the Chargers.  The Red and White will travel to Normal, Ala. on Wednesday to face NCAA Division I foe Alabama A&M.
