LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– West Alabama senior
outside hitter/middle
blocker Jessica Crook has
been named this week’s Gulf
South Conference East
Division Offensive Player of
the Week, announced on the
league’s GSC Radio Live
broadcast on Tuesday.
Crook earned the GSC honor
after being the offensive
catalyst for the Tigers in
their three wins last week
against North Alabama, West
Georgia and Valdosta State.
Crook, a native of Ohatchee,
Ala., turned in a team-best
39 kills and registered
double figure kill totals in
all three matches, including
a team-high 17 against UNA
last Tuesday. She finished
the week with an impressive
.377 hitting percentage and
only had ten miscues.
Against UWG, Crook was
credited with 11 kills on 18
attempts. Along with her
offensive prowess, Crook
added four total blocks, two
of the solo variety.
Crook becomes the fifth UWA
player awarded the GSC honor
and sixth time this season
UWA has claimed one of the
weekly accolades. Senior
Ana Gabriela Pedrosa is a
two-time GSC East Player of
the Week selection.
UWA takes on UAH in a GSC
East duel tonight at 7 p.m.
in Pruitt Hall. The Tigers
will put their GSC-best ten
match winning streak on the
line along with the top spot
in the division against the
Chargers. The Red and White
will travel to Normal, Ala.
on Wednesday to face NCAA
Division I foe Alabama A&M.
