LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
The University of West
Alabama volleyball team will
close out the 2007 home slate on
Friday, Oct. 26, with a Gulf
South Conference tilt with West
Georgia. Match time is set for
7 p.m. at Pruitt Hall on the UWA
campus.
The UWG will
be the final home appearance for
two Tiger players – Taylor
Borunda and Rafaella Maranhao.
The duo is a mainstay in the
Tiger line up with both seeing
valuable minutes this season.
Borunda and Maranhao have helped
UWA to a record-setting season
in 2007. The Red and White
started the season 18-0 and was
the last team in NCAA Division
II Women’s Volleyball to drop a
match. With the win over
Alabama at Huntsville on Oct.
18, UWA clinched its first trip
to the GSC Tournament since
2002. The squad has compiled
the most wins in the program
since 2002. Senior night
ceremonies will take place after
the match along with recognition
of the parents of the 2007
squad.
The Tigers
7-2 in the league standing and
tied for second with North
Alabama in the East Division, is
jockeying for tournament seeding
with just three conference
matches left on the docket. UWA
will close out the regular
season with matches against No.
24 West Florida and Valdosta
State. The Wolves of UWG enter
Friday’s contest with a 22-10
overall record and 4-5 in league
play. They are battling for the
final spot in the tournament on
the East side of the bracket.
UWA will be looking for the
season sweep of the Wolves after
claiming a thrilling five-set
match in Carrollton, Ga. The
last season sweep by UWA was
during the 2002 season.
