VALDOSTA, Ga. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team closed out the
2007 regular season with a 3-1
win over Valdosta State on
Saturday. The conference
victory was the eighth of the
year, which is the most since
the 2002 campaign.
The Tigers
opened the four-game match with
a 30-13 win over the Lady
Blazers (9-25, 0-12 GSC). VSU
evened the match with a 30-27
win in the second game. UWA
fought off the Red and Black in
the third game, squeaking out a
31-29 win. The Red and White
closed out the match with a
30-23 win to post its 27th
win of the season.
UWA will
now turn its attention to the
post season with a trip to
Searcy, Ark. for the 2007 Gulf
South Conference Tournament.
The Tigers will be the No. 3
seed from the Eastern Division
and will face the No. 2 seed
Henderson State from the Western
Division. The full eight-team
bracket will be announced by the
conference office when the
regular season concludes this
weekend.
UWA placed
three players in double figure
kills, led by sophomore Ana
Gabriela Pedrosa’s
double-double. Pedrosa carded
15 kills and 12 digs in the
affair. Junior Allison Nail
secured 14 kills to move past
the 1,000-kill mark for her
career. Senior Rafaella
Maranhao added 12 kills in the
win. Sophomore setter Giuliana
De Francesco tallied a
double-double with 48 assists
and 12 digs. Defensively,
senior Taylor Borunda registered
11 digs while Jacquie Swan
finished with 10 digs.
