LIVINGSTON, Ala. — For the
second straight Gulf South
Conference match, the University of
West Alabama volleyball team had
four players reach double figures in
kills, but it wasn’t enough to pull
off a Senior Day upset of Valdosta
State, losing, 3-1, to the Lady
Blazers Saturday afternoon at Pruitt
Hall.
The Tigers (9-23 overall, 1-11 GSC)
dropped the first two games, 30-23
and 30-21, but bounced back in the
third game.
After racing out to a 16-7 lead,
West Alabama took its largest margin
of the day on sophomore Teresa
Clements’ kill, giving the Tigers a
25-13 advantage. Sophomore Niki
Steckel’s kill pushed the lead to
29-23 and West Alabama took
advantage of a service error to win
the game, 30-23.Valdosta State
(20-14, 7-5) led throughout the
fourth, taking the game, 30-22.
Sophomore Allison Nail led West
Alabama’s offense with 16 kills and
seven digs, while hitting .379.
Clements, who hit .444, and freshman
Jessica Crook finished with 15 and
12 kills, respectively, while junior
Rachel Hardaway added 11 kills.
Freshman Giuliana De Francesco had a
game-high 52 assists and nine digs.
Senior Elizabeth Colley finished
with three kills and five total
blocks.
Grace George and Bentley Knox paced
Valdosta State with 15 and 10 kills,
respectively. Niki Patriarca had 42
assists, while George finished with
11 block assists.
The Tigers had 60 kills and 15
errors, while the Lady Blazers
finished with 53 kills and 10
errors.
