LIVINGSTON, Ala. — After
registering three wins this past
weekend at the University of
Montevallo Coca-Cola Classic,
the University of West Alabama
volleyball team will travel to
Florence, Ala. on Tuesday for a
crucial match with the
University of North Alabama.
Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
at UNA’s Flowers Hall.
With Gulf
South Conference Tournament
implications on the line, UWA
needs a win or a loss by
Montevallo and
Alabama-Huntsville to clinch a
spot in the 8-team field. The
last time the Red and White
Tigers earned a berth in the
post season event was the 2001
season. The 2007 tournament is
slated to be held at the GSC
Western Division winner.
UWA will be
gunning for a season sweep of
the Lions after claiming a 3-0
sweep of the Purple and Gold at
Pruitt Hall in September. The
win snapped a 23-match losing
streak to the Lions. UWA placed
three players in double figures
in kills with junior Allison
Nail posting a team-high 16
kills. Senior Rafaella Maranhao
and Ana Gabriela Pedrosa each
recorded 12 kills in the
victory.
The Tigers
claimed wins over Martin
Methodist, Armstrong Atlantic
State and Lincoln Memorial this
past weekend at the UM event.
The lone setback of the weekend
was a loss to Lynn University in
the opener on Friday night. UNA
(15-11, 6-2 GSC) participated in
the tournament on Friday,
topping Clark Atlanta and
falling to Lynn in a five-set
marathon. In their last outing,
the Lions downed Christian
Brothers on Saturday.
UWA returns to the home floor on
Thursday, Oct. 18 against
Alabama Huntsville at 7 p.m. at
Pruitt Hall.
