HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team remained
perfect on the season with a
3-0 sweep of in-state foe
Alabama Huntsville on
Thursday night at UAH’s
Spragins Hall.
UWA is
one of two teams still
undefeated in NCAA Division
II Volleyball, released by
the organization on
Thursday. Clarion
University of Pennsylvania
joins the Tigers as the two
teams in the nation without
a blemish on the slate.
The
Tigers claimed the opening
game 30-25 over the Lady
Chargers. The game was tied
22-22 before UWA outscored
UAH 8-3 over the final eight
points of the game to win
the opening game. In game
two, the Red and White ran
off five consecutive points
to extend a 15-11 advantage
to 20-11 and take control of
the game en route to a 30-20
victory. UWA made quick
work of UAH in the
match-clinching third game,
posting a 30-19 win to seal
the third Gulf South
Conference win for the
Tigers.
Junior
Allison Nail finished with a
match-high nine kills along
with six digs. Sophomore Ana
Gabriela Pedrosa added eight
kills. Senior Rafaella
Maranhao and Junior Teresa
Clements each posted seven
kills each. Maranhao
registered a .429 hitting
percentage clip in the
match.
UAH’s
Allison Cousins paced the
Blue and White with eight
kills. The Tiger defense
held the Lady Chargers to
just a .069 hitting
percentage in the sweep.
The Tigers will enjoy a
weekend break from
competition and will jump
back into action at West
Georgia on Friday, Sept.
28. The match is slated to
begin at 6 p.m. CST.
