BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. — University of West
Alabama sophomore libero Jacquie
Swan was selected the Gulf South
Conference East Division Volleyball
Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday
by the conference office.
Swan, a defensive specialist,
anchored the defense for the Tigers
last week, totaling 60 digs during
the week and leading her squad to a
win over South Central region foe
Albany State.
The 5-foot-3 Mobile, Ala., native
averaged 6.0 per match, and reached
the 20-dig mark once. She had 26
digs against, UAH, and has reached
the 30-dig mark twice this season.
She also had four services aces
against UAH and Albany State.
"Jacquie's tenacity to keep a ball
in play and to keep focus through
tough times during a match is what
the team relies upon," West Alabama
head coach Ron Arenz said.
"Receiving this honor is a testament
to her hard work and her desire to
excel."
Also earning GSC honors from the
East Division was West Florida
outside hitter Carly Moyers and from
the West were Ouachita Baptist
middle blocker Breanne Garrett and
Henderson State libero Bethany
Wright.
The Tigers wrap up the season Friday
and Saturday at Pruitt Hall, as West
Alabama plays host to West Florida
in a 7:00 p.m. match Friday and a
1:00 p.m. match against Valdosta
State Saturday. |
