Swan earns All-GSC Defensive Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of West Alabama sophomore libero Jacquie Swan was selected the Gulf South Conference East Division Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday by the conference office.

Swan, a defensive specialist, anchored the defense for the Tigers last week, totaling 60 digs during the week and leading her squad to a win over South Central region foe Albany State. The 5-foot-3 Mobile, Ala., native averaged 6.0 per match, and reached the 20-dig mark once. She had 26 digs against, UAH, and has reached the 30-dig mark twice this season. She also had four services aces against UAH and Albany State.

"Jacquie's tenacity to keep a ball in play and to keep focus through tough times during a match is what the team relies upon," West Alabama head coach Ron Arenz said. "Receiving this honor is a testament to her hard work and her desire to excel."

Also earning GSC honors from the East Division was West Florida outside hitter Carly Moyers and from the West were Ouachita Baptist middle blocker Breanne Garrett and Henderson State libero Bethany Wright.

The Tigers wrap up the season Friday and Saturday at Pruitt Hall, as West Alabama plays host to West Florida in a 7:00 p.m. match Friday and a 1:00 p.m. match against Valdosta State Saturday.
