UWA Moves To 14-0; Downs Southern Arkansas 3-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama volleyball team moved to 14-0 on the season after sweeping Southern Arkansas 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-17) Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.  UWA also claimed Friday’s match over SAU to complete the weekend sweep.

The Tigers had three players in double figures in kills with junior Allison Nail recording a match-high 18 kills. Nail finished with a .412 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Ana Gabriella Pedrosa turned in 11 kills while Jessica Crook added 10 kills in the win.  Jacquie Swan led all individuals with 19 digs.  Sophomore Giuliana De Francesco tallied 40 assists along with four block assists.

“It was great to see us come with the same intensity that we had last night (Friday),” said head coach Ron Arenz.  “We will enjoy this one for a day or two and then turn our attention to North Alabama on Tuesday night.”

The Lady Muleriders (3-10) had four players with five kills each – Shelly Jones, Maggie Ross, Sarah Bell and Christina Correa.

The Tigers return to Gulf South Conference Eastern Division play on Tuesday, Sept. 18, as UWA welcomes in-state rival North Alabama to Pruitt Hall.  The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white to the match versus UNA to “White Out The Lions”.
