Tigers Quick Work Southern Arkansas, 3-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama volleyball team swept Southern Arkansas 3-0 on Friday night in the first of two matches this weekend with the Lady Muleriders.  The win at Pruitt Hall in front of 619 in attendance pushes UWA’s record to 13-0 on the season.

The Tigers made quick-work of SAU 30-19, 30-23 and 30-16 in a match that lasted just an hour and 20 minutes.  UWA put together a balanced attack on offense led by junior Allison Nail, who registered a match-high 13 kills.  Sophomores Jessica Crook and Ana Gabriela Pedrosa each finished with nine kills.  Senior Rafaella Maranhao added eight kills and tallied six service aces in the contest.  Senior Taylor Borunda finished with a match-high 16 digs.

“We had really good balance tonight,” said head coach Ron Arenz.  “We spread the wealth tonight in kills which is a good sign of great communication by the team.”

SAU (3-9) was led by Kristina Daily with 6 kills while Christina Correa added five kills in the loss.

The two Gulf South Conference foes square off again on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus.  First serve is set for 1 p.m.
