LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
The University of West
Alabama volleyball team is
ranked seventh in the initial
2007 NCAA Regional rankings,
released by the Division II
Women’s Volleyball Committee on
Wednesday.
The regional
ranking is another first for the
UWA volleyball program. The
20-1 Tigers are one of five Gulf
South Conference teams ranked in
the South Central Region
listing, and were the last DII
team in America to lose a match
this season. West Florida is
the highest ranked GSC squad at
No. 3 followed by North Alabama
at No. 8. Henderson State holds
down the No. 9 spot while West
Georgia rounds out the poll at
No. 10. The rankings are one
component of eligibility for
postseason competition.
The Red and
White posted its 20th
win of the season on Tuesday
night with a 3-0 sweep of
Montevallo. The win marks the
fourth time in the program’s 29
year history that the Tigers
have reached the 20-win
plateau.
UWA will face
Lynn and
Martin-Methodist on Friday,
Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
respectively as part of the
Montevallo Coca-Cola Classic.
The Tigers will square off with
Armstrong Atlantic and Lincoln
Memorial on Saturday at Noon and
2 p.m.
