MOBILE, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team closed out the
non-conference portion of the
season with a 3-0 sweep of
Spring Hill College in Mobile,
Ala. on Thursday night. The
match started a three day, three
match road trip for the Tigers.
With the win over the
Badgers, UWA finished the
non-conference slate with just
one loss outside of Gulf South
Conference play. The setback
came against Lynn University in
the opening match of the
Montevallo Coca-Cola
Tournament. The Red and White
will trek to Pensacola, Fla. on
Friday to square off with No. 25
West Florida. The squad closes
out the regular season against
Valdosta State on Saturday.
The Tigers claimed the sweep
with scores of 30-28, 30-18 and
30-22. UWA was led by Ana
Gabriela Pedrosa, who posted a
double-double with 10 kills and
11 digs. The sophomore also
finished with three of the
squad’s 10 service aces.
Rafaella Maranhao turned in a
team-high 11 kills and eight
digs. Mobile, Ala.-native
Jacquie Swan added 18 digs in
the contest. Jessica Crook and
Allison Nail finished with eight
and six kills respectively.
With her six kills on Thursday,
Nail stands at 984 career kills
in her two-plus years in the Red
and White. The Cullman,
Ala.-native is just 16 shy of
the 1,000 career kill mark.
Friday’s match against the
