Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team will close out the 2007 regular season with a three-match road trip this weekend.  The Tigers will face NAIA foe Spring Hill on Thursday night before facing Gulf South Conference rivals West Florida and Valdosta State on the weekend.

UWA will tangle with SHC at 7 p.m. in Mobile, Ala. while the UWF match is set for Friday at 7 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.  Saturday’s match with the Lady Blazers of VSU is set for Noon CST.  UWA won earlier contests with SHC and VSU while suffering its first setback of the season to the No. 25 Argonauts of UWF.

The Tigers, 25-4 overall and 7-3 in GSC play, are coming off a disappointing setback last week to West Georgia in the home finale.  The Red and White are still battling for seeding purposes for the 2007 GSC Tournament that will be held in Searcy, Ark. on Nov. 9-10.  HU clinched homecourt advantage with its 3-0 sweep of Henderson State on Tuesday night.

The Red and White continue to lead the conference in hitting percentage (.269) and service aces (259).  The club has registered 1,458 kills on the season (15.35 per game), which ranks fourth-best in the GSC.
