volleyball team returns to Gulf
South Conference Eastern
Division action against in-state
foe North Alabama on Tuesday,
Sept. 18 at Pruitt Hall on the
UWA campus. First serve is set
for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged
to wear white to the match and
help “White Out the Lions”.
The Tigers, who opened GSC
Eastern Division competition
with a road win at Montevallo
last Tuesday and a weekend sweep
of Southern Arkansas, are led by
junior Allison Nail. In the
three matches last week, Nail
recorded 51 kills (5.10 per
game) over the three-match
span. The Cullman, Ala.-native
registered 20 kills against UM.
It marked the second time this
season she has tallied 20-plus
kills in a match. The Red and
White had a balanced attack in
the SAU duel on Saturday,
posting three players in double
figures in kills.
“The match is huge for both
teams,” said head coach Ron
Arenz. “Both teams are playing
well right now. North Alabama
is always a strong opponent and
present many challenges for us.”
UNA enters the match with a
7-8 record on the season after
winning two matches over the
weekend in the UNA Regional
Crossover in Florence, Ala. The
Lions topped Barry and Harding
in the event.
Following Tuesday’s pivotal tilt
with UNA, The Tigers continue
conference action on Thursday,
Sept. 20, traveling to
Alabama-Huntsville. UWA’s next
home match is set for Oct. 5 as
it welcomes West Florida to
campus.
