LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team will step out of
conference play on Saturday,
Oct. 20, traveling to
Montgomery, Ala. to face
Division III opponent Huntingdon
College. The match is slated to
begin at 2 p.m. on the HC
campus.
The Tigers,
24-3 overall and 7-2 in Gulf
South Conference action, punched
their ticket to the 2007 GSC
Volleyball Tournament on
Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep
of in-state foe University of
Alabama at Huntsville. The post
season berth is the first for
the Red and White since the 2001
season. The top four teams from
each division will do battle on
the GSC Western Division
champion’s home floor beginning
on Friday, Nov. 9.
UWA is the
top hitting team in the GSC,
posting a .275 hitting
percentage. The squad also
ranks atop the league overall
statistics in service aces. The
Tigers are listed third and
fourth respectively in the
conference in assists and
kills. Individually, junior
Allison Nail is second among
conference leaders in hitting
percentage with a .342 clip.
The Cullman, Ala.-product ranks
fifth in kills. Sophomore
Jessica Crook is listed 10th
in the kills category. Giuliana
De Francesco sports 12.91
assists per game on the season.
The Lady
Hawks of HC takes on Reinhardt
College and Faulkner University
on Friday night in the Faulkner
University tri-match prior to
facing UWA on Saturday. HC
enters Friday’s pair of contests
with an 11-11 mark on the
season.
The Tigers return home to close
out the 2007 home slate on
Friday, Oct. 26, hosting West
Georgia at 7 p.m. at Pruitt
Hall. Following the match, UWA
will honor its two seniors –
Rafaella Maranhao and Taylor
Borunda.
