The University of West Alabama
volleyball team dropped its
opening round match to Henderson
State 3-0 in the 2007 Gulf South
Conference Volleyball Tournament
on the campus of Harding
University. The Tigers
appearance in the league post
season event was the first for
the program since the 2002
campaign.
In the opening game, the
second-seeded Lady Reddies
(22-9) notched a 30-28 win to
start the match. The opener was
tightly contested with the
largest lead at any point in the
game was four with 16-12
advantage in favor of HSU. In
game two, HSU jumped out 23-16
lead, but the Red and White
chipped into the lead, running
off seven straight points. The
Tigers evened the score at 28
apiece before the Lady Reddies
posted two straight points to
win 30-28. In the final game,
the Red and White fought hard,
but fell 30-27. UWA held two
early leads in the
match-clinching game, but the
Lady Reddies fought off the Red
and White.
UWA was led by Ana Gabriela
Pedrosa and Allison Nail in
kills. Pedrosa finished with a
team-best 15 kills, while Nail
tallied 13 in the affair. HSU
was led by Edith Musebe with a
match-high 33 kills.
The Tigers finish the season
with a 27-6 mark overall and
posted eight conference wins.
