UWA Volleyball Travels To Carson Newman Tourney

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — On the heels of one of the best starts in school history; the University of West Alabama volleyball team looks to continue its early season success this weekend at the Carson Newman Tournament in Jefferson City, Tenn.  UWA will face Tusculum College at 11:15 a.m. CST on Friday, Aug. 31.  The Tigers close out the opening day against Mars-Hill College at 5:30 p.m. CST.

UWA opened the season last weekend by reeling off four wins in the Augusta (Ga.) State Jaguar Classic.  Junior Allison Nail paced the UWA offense during the season-opening weekend averaging 5.17 kills per game while connecting at an outstanding .588 percentage.  The Cullman, Ala.-native had at least 13 kills in every match, and topped out at 17 twice for the Red and White.  Nail was named the Gulf South Conference’s Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week for her season-opening performance.  She also joined sophomore Giuliana De Francesco on the Jaguar Classic All-Tournament Team.

“We are looking to build on what we accomplished last weekend,” said volleyball head coach Ron Arenz.  “This weekend will be a big test for us to see how we respond to the early success.”

The Tigers will square off with Alderson-Broaddus College and Augusta (Ga.) State on Saturday. Sept. 1.  Match times are slated for 12:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. CST.
