LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
On the heels of one of the best
starts in school history; the
University of West Alabama
volleyball team looks to
continue its early season
success this weekend at the
Carson Newman Tournament in
Jefferson City, Tenn. UWA will
face Tusculum College at 11:15
a.m. CST on Friday, Aug. 31.
The Tigers close out the opening
day against Mars-Hill College at
5:30 p.m. CST.
UWA opened the season last
weekend by reeling off four wins
in the Augusta (Ga.) State
Jaguar Classic. Junior Allison
Nail paced the UWA offense
during the season-opening
weekend averaging 5.17 kills per
game while connecting at an
outstanding .588 percentage.
The Cullman, Ala.-native had at
least 13 kills in every match,
and topped out at 17 twice for
the Red and White. Nail was
named the Gulf South
Conference’s Eastern Division
Offensive Player of the Week for
her season-opening performance.
She also joined sophomore
Giuliana De Francesco on the
Jaguar Classic All-Tournament
Team.
“We are looking to build on
what we accomplished last
weekend,” said volleyball head
coach Ron Arenz. “This weekend
will be a big test for us to see
how we respond to the early
success.”
The Tigers will square off with
Alderson-Broaddus College and
Augusta (Ga.) State on Saturday.
Sept. 1. Match times are slated
for 12:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. CST.
