ALBANY, Ga. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team made history
Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of
Albany State. With the victory,
the Tigers broke the school
record for consecutive wins with
their 18th
consecutive triumph.
UWA made quick work of the Rams
of ASU, registering a 30-25,
30-22 and 30-13 sweep. Senior
Rafaella Maranhao secured her
second-straight double-double
with a team-best 13 kills and 11
digs. Maranhao had just one
miscue on 22 attempts along with
five service aces. In the West
Georgia encounter on Friday
night, Maranhao finished with 11
kills and 15 digs. Junior
Allison Nail posted 12 kills and
seven digs while Ana Gabriela
Pedrosa turned in nine kills.
Jessica Crook and Jazlyn Wright
each tallied seven kills in the
win.
“It was a dominating performance
by our team, especially after
Friday’s match with West
Georgia,” said head coach Ron
Arenz. “We have two huge
matches next weekend with West
Florida and Valdosta State
coming to our place.”
The Red and White returns to
Gulf South Conference Eastern
Division action next Friday and
Saturday. UWA will entertain
West Florida on Friday at 7 p.m.
and will welcome Valdosta State
to Pruitt Hall on Saturday. The
UWA-VSU match is set for 1 p.m.
