Women's Tennis Tops Eckerd 7-2; UWA Men Fall 6-3 |
ST.
PETERSBURG, Fla. – The West Alabama
women’s tennis team got its spring break
tour of the state of Florida on the right
foot with a 7-2 win over Eckerd College in
St. Petersburg, Fla. on Monday afternoon.
The UWA men dropped a 6-3 decision to the
Tritons of EC.
UWA picked up five
wins in singles competition against EC.
Mariana Freita, Chenge Tsapayi, Brittany
Williams, Rachel Hardaway and Amanda
Morgan all won their respective
matches. The lone Tiger loss came at
No. 1 with UWA's Nicole Shanahan coming
up short against EC's Madora Mak, 6-3,
6-0. In doubles activity, the Tiger duo
of Hardaway and Morgan topped the Triton
pairing of Rachel Chitton and Rachel
Harbeitner, 8-2. At no. 3 doubles,
UWA's duo of Freitas and Tsapayi ousted
the Triton tandem of Danielle Loizzo and
Flavia Russo, 8-4.
On the men's side,
Carlin Tighe, Lucas Cruz and Wesley
Yarnton turned in wins in sigles play.
Tighe cruised past EC's Colton Jacobs,
only dropping one game in a straight set
win, 6-0, 6-1.
The
Tiger women return the court on Tuesday,
March 25, battling Tampa on the UT campus.
The Red and White men will duel 40th-ranked
Florida Tech on Wednesday, March 26. Both
squads will face Palm Beach Atlantic on
Thursday, March 27. The Sailfish men enter
the contest ranked 38th in the
country. UWA closes out the trip squaring
off with St. Leo on the Friday, March 28.
