MONTEVALLO, Ala. —
West Alabama’s women’s tennis team topped
Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo, 5-4,
on Wednesday at the Varsity Courts on the UM
campus.
UWA (9-4) won two of the
three matches in doubles competition and
sealed the win by claiming the final three
courts in singles play. The Tiger tandem of
Nicole Shanahan and Brittany Williams turned
back the Falcon duo of Shasta Brown and
Dorothy Sherman 8-3. The team of Amanda
Morgan and Rachel Hardaway dropped UM’s
pairing of Kelley Vaughn and Terrylisa
Abdool 8-7 (5).
In singles, Shanahan
defeated Shasta Brown, 6-2, 6-1, at the No.
1 position. UWA’s Williams and Hardaway won
their respective matches in straight sets.
Williams breezed past Sherman at No. 4, 6-0,
6-1. The Tigers clinched the match with
Hardaway’s 6-4, 6-2 win over UM’s Vaughn ay
No. 5.
The UWA netters return to
competition on Friday, March 14, traveling
to Louisville, Ky. to face Lindsey Wilson at
9 a.m. and the University of Southern
Indiana at 2 p.m.
