INDIANAPOLIS,
Ind. –
The University of
West Alabama men’s tennis team was
selected to NCAA Division II Tennis
Championship, announced Wednesday
evening by the Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Committee.
With the selection
to the NCAA post season, it marks the
first time the men’s program at UWA has
earned a berth into the championship.
The Tigers (18-6)
will face Sunshine State Conference foe
Rollins College (17-8) in the opening
round. The six-team preliminary round
will be contested in Boca Raton, Fla.
Lynn University will serve as host of
the event that gets underway on
Thursday, May 7. Gulf South Conference
opponent Valdosta State (15-3) and Lynn
(16-3) received an opening day bye.
Florida Tech (16-9) and Florida Southern
(14-9) will battle in the other side of
the bracket.
The championships
consist of a 16-team single elimination
tournament. Each of the following eight
regions will conduct two
preliminary-round tournaments: Atlantic,
Central, East, Midwest, South, South
Central, Southeast and West. The
winner of
each preliminary-round tournament will
advance to the finals in Altamonte
Springs, Florida, hosted by the Central
Florida Sports Commission and Rollins
College, May 13-16.
Match time
will be announced later by the host
institution.
