LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
tennis teams blanked in-state foe Stillman
College, 9-0, in both the men’s and women’s
matches on Tuesday at the Howard R. Vaughan
Tennis Complex on the UWA campus.
The region non-conference match was a tune
up for Wednesday’s pivotal Gulf South
Conference duel with North Alabama. Match
time is set for 6 p.m. on the UWA campus.
UWA’s women moved to 10-12 on the season,
while the Tiger men pushed their overall
mark to 15-5.
In the men’s match, SC claimed just four
games in singles activity. UWA’s Danish
Ahmad cruised past SC’s Bryan Walker, 6-0,
6-0 as did UWA’s Carlin Tighe over Carlos
Shepperd of SC. Lucas Nunes downed SC’s Thomas Walker, 6-0, 6-1 along with
Austin Lindsay’s 6-1, 6-0 win over SC’s
Jeremiah Carr. James Gardner and Alvaro De
La Torre won in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-1. In
doubles, UWA’s tandem of Nunes and Lucas
Cruz blanked SC’s duo of Shepperd and
Walker, 8-0. Tighe and Gardner posted an
8-0 shutout of Walker and William Willbourn.
On the women’s side, the
Tiger women claimed all three doubles points
before sweeping the singles portion of the
match. The Red and White’s Mariana Freitas
and Victoria Jones turned back SC’s Olivia
Hall and Joyce Lewis, 8-2. UWA’s pairing of
Nicole Shanahan and Amanda Morgan topped
Adrienne Freeman and Lauren Thomas, 8-0.
Shanahan and Courtney McDonald registered
6-0, 6-0 wins over Hall and Clarissa Benson
respectively. Jones and Freitas made quick
work of their foe, as Jones registered a
6-1, 6-0 thumping of Thomas, while Freitas
carded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lewis. Morgan
battled Freeman at the fourth position
before turning in a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
