ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of West
Alabama tennis team, who has sewed up a Gulf
South Conference Tournament berth, earned a
7-2 non-conference win over Morehouse
College in Atlanta.
With
the win, the Tigers moved to 12-9 on the
season with two regular season matches left
on the docket before heading to Montgomery,
Ala. for the GSC Tournament later in April.
The win over MC registers a season sweep
over the Maroon and White.
UWA
claimed two of the doubles matches and
topped MC in five of the six singles
matches. Carlin Tighe held off MC’s Tory
Martin at court two, winning 7-5, 7-5. Wes
Yartnton and Brandon Harris picked up wins
on their respective courts in straight
sets. Lucas Cruz made quick work of MC’s
Kadir Carruthers, 6-0, 6-1 while Lucas Nunez
topped Johan Oliver of MC, 6-2, 6-2.
The Red
and White return to action on April 12,
traveling to Clinton, Miss. to face
Mississippi College. UWA closes out the
regular season with a tilt with North
Alabama on April 14.
