LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
West Alabama’s softball team will step out of conference
play on Sunday welcoming Mars Hill College to the UWA
Softball Complex for a 2 p.m. twinbill on the UWA
campus.
The Tigers, 15-12,
opened the Gulf South Conference slate with back-to-back
one-run setbacks to West Georgia on Thursday. The
Mountain Lions of MHC enter the contest sporting a 24-5
record after dropping a doubleheader to Carson Newman
earlier in the week. The meeting will be the first
between the two schools on the softball diamond.
The two games against
MHC will close out an eight-game week for UWA. The Red
and White opened the week with a split with St. Leo on
Monday and claimed a seep over Miles College on Tuesday
before the trip to West Georgia. As a team, the Tigers
sport a .327 batting average clip, led by junior
shortstop Courtney Gordon’s .422 average. Freshman
second baseman Kelli Hartley leads the team in the RBI
and home run department with 34 runs driven in and
connected on 10 dingers so far on the season.
Following the
non-conference match up, UWA will host nationally ranked
Valdosta State on Friday, March 21 and West Florida on
Saturday, March 22.
