LIVINGSTON, Ala. —The
University of West Alabama softball team returns to the
friendly confines of the UWA Softball Complex on
Wednesday, April 2, with a doubleheader tilt with
in-state foe Judson College. The final non-conference
home date begins back-to-back home dates for the Tigers
as they square off with West Georgia on Friday in Gulf
South Conference action. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
UWA (19-20) enters the week having
dropped its last two GSC series to top-ranked Alabama in
Huntsville and North Alabama to close out the spring
break road trip. The Red and White split a twinbill
with Missouri University of Science & Technology during
the mid week in Williamsburg, Ky. UWA and the Eagles of
JC have met five times previously on the softball
diamond with the Tigers holding a 3-2 mark over JC.
As a team, the Tigers sport a batting
clip of .314, which ranks fourth in the GSC and 46th
in the country. Individually, junior shortstop Courtney
Gordon ranks second in the league in batting with a 50
hits and a .439 average at the plate. Her batting
average ranks 20th in the initial NCAA stats,
released last week. The Meridian Community College
transfer also ranks fifth in the league in on base
percentage (.488). Freshman second baseman Kelli
Hartley is second in the conference in home runs with 11
on the season. The Northport, Ala.-native leads the
team in RBIs with 40.
UWA’s meeting with the Wolves of UWG
will be the second meeting of the season between the two
schools. The Wolves claimed a pair of one-run contests
earlier in the season over the Tigers in Carrollton, Ga.
