LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – Seniors Laura Bagwell and Aubree
Hudson were named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District IV Softball Second Team,
announced by the College Sports Information
Directors of America.
The UWA duo
helped guide the 2009 squad to a 42-17 overall
mark and the program’s first trip to the Gulf
South Conference Tournament since 1997.
Bagwell,
the anchor at third base for the Tigers,
accumulated a 3.79 grade point average in the
exercise science curriculum at UWA. The
Ragland, Ala.-native departs the Red and White
ranked in the top five in four career offensive
categories. Bagwell is listed second all-time
in runs scored with 134, third in doubles (38),
second in walks (86) and fourth all-time in
total bases with 256. As a senior, Bagwell
turned in 14 doubles in 58 games played and
earned All-GSC Second Team honors for the
second-straight season.
Hudson, a
mainstay in the circle with 40 appearances,
culminates a four-year in which the Bellflower,
Calif.-product achieved success in the classroom
and on the field. Academically, Hudson
maintained a 3.83 GPA in pre-law studies at
UWA. On the field, she turned in a 15-8
pitching mark. She stuck out a team-best 86 in
116.2 innings pitched. She ranks fifth all-time
in career appearances with 109 along with
earning the starting nod in 75 games throughout
her career, which is fifth-best.
Student-athletes
must maintain a 3.30 or better along with
participating in 50 percent of the team’s games
at their respective positions to be eligible for
the academic team.
