ATLANTA, Ga.
– The University of West Alabama
swept all three of its games at the
Clark Atlanta Tournament on Friday
as the Tigers (18-11) took down Fort
Valley State 11-3, Claflin 8-0 and
Stillman College 10-1.
UWA outscored
its opponents 29-4 on the day as the
Tigers totaled 31 hits and committed
only 3 errors in the first day of
action. Shannon Goggins and Jennifer
Lillard led the Tigers at the plate.
Lillard batted .750 on the day with
5 runs scored and 4 RBI, while
Goggins hit .555 with 4 runs scored
and 7 RBI.
In the first
game of the day, UWA totaled 11 hits
on 17 at bats. Mary Wright and
Jennifer Lillard led the attack at
the plate with each tallying 3 hits
in all 3 trips to the plate. Wright
totaled 3 RBI in the game while
Lillard added 2 RBI. Shannon White
went 1-for-1 also with an RBI.
Krista
Merrifield and Emily White each went
.500 from the dish, each collecting
1 RBI. White also picked up the win
on the mound improving to 7-3 on the
season. White went 4 2/3 innings
allowing three runs on four hits
while fanning 2 batters and allowing
1 walk.
Corey Curlee
and Shannon Goggins rounded out the
hits for UWAboth picked up hits for
the Tigers, going 1-for-3 from the
plate as Curlee supplied 1 RBI and
Goggins totaled 2 RBI for UWA.
In game two,
the Tigers gathered 8 runs on 9
hits. Aubree Hudson (6-5) picked up
the win for UWA with all 5 innings
of work, scattering 3 hits and
sitting down 5 Claflin batters.
Goggins paced
the offensive attack for the Tigers,
going 2-for-4 from the plate with 2
RBI. Merrifield also gathered 2 RBI
in the game with a 1-for-3 day at
the dish. White, Alisha Berry and
Heather Shugart each picked up an
RBI in the game.
The Tigers
completed the day one sweep with 10
runs on 11 hits against Stillman.
Amanda Bintz earned her second win
of the season with 4 innings of
work, allowing 2 hits and fanning 8
Stillman batters.
Goggins picked
up where she left off in the second
game, going 2-for-2 with 3 RBI.
Lillard and Shugart each picked up 2
RBI as Lillard went 2-for-3 and
Shugart went 1-for-4. Sheila Jordan
went 1-for-3 with an RBI as Samantha
White hit a triple in her only at
bat.
Merrifield,
Emily White and Curlee each supplied
hits for the Tigers as Merrifield
totaled 2 hits as White and Curlee
each tallied 1 hit for UWA.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, March
10, as the Tigers will face Florida
Tech at 10 a.m. in the Clark Atlanta
Tournament before rounding out the
weekend against the host Clark
Atlanta at 2 p.m. |
