LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The
University of West Alabama wranglers competed in
the UWA Tiger Showdown at the Don C. Hines Rodeo
Complex over the weekend, with the women winning
the event and the men's squad placing fifth.
The Tiger
women finished with 575 points, three-hundred
more than Troy (275), which took second.
Arkansas-Monticello placed third (206.6).
Sophomore
Lauren Hendrick and junior Natasha Parker placed
1-2 (6.1 and 6.4, respectively) in the
breakaway-roping event, while senior Kelly Lacey
took fourth (7.3). Hendrick also won in goat
tying with 20.5 points and junior Carrissa
Purvis was sixth (23.6). Parker, who won the
women's all-around, was second (33.78) in barrel
racing and freshman Deanna Mixon took fifth
(34.21).
"Our women's
team had the best rodeo they've had in two
years," Tigers coach Jayson Schoenfeld said. "We
had a lot of girls and guys step up and had a
great rodeo."
The West
Alabama men's squad finished with 320 points,
good enough for fifth. Tennessee-Martin took the
event (725), followed by Troy (540) and Missouri
Valley College (520).
Senior Josh
Napp and senior Tyler Pearson enjoyed winning
the steer-wrestling event. Senior Todd Bledsoe
was fourth (138) in bareback riding and Garrett
Mooney of Arkansas Tech and Napp tied for sixth
in team roping. Freshman Tyler Earwood was
second (144) in bull riding, followed by senior
Brandon Reynolds in third (141).
The Tiger
wranglers next compete Nov. 16-18 at Murray
State University in Murray, Ky. |
