MURRAY, Ky. --
The
University of West Alabama wranglers competed at
the Murray State University Rodeo over the
weekend, with the Tiger men placing second.
West Alabama
men finished with 600 points, while Tennessee at
Martin won the event with 710 points. Host
Murray was third (390) and Troy fourth (360).
Senior Josh
Napp won the steer-wrestling event (8.2), while
junior Blake Cavataio placed second (19.3) in
calf roping. Senior Todd Bledsoe finished sixth
(72) and in bull riding and senior Brandon
Reynolds took second (152).
‘The men’s
team had the best rodeo of the year, and put
them back into the top four in the region,”
Tigers coach Jayson Schoenfeld said. “The
women’s team had some bad luck this weekend;
however, they still are sitting second in the
Ozark Region.”
Sophomore
Casey Chapman placed sixth in goat tying (20.0)
and eighth (34.91) in barrel racing.
After five
rodeo meets, the West Alabama men are fourth
with 1,745 points. Tennessee at Martin is first,
(3,615), followed by Troy University (2,160) and
Missouri Valley College (1,880). In the women’s
standings, Troy is first (1,490), followed by
West Alabama (1,350) and Arkansas at Monticello
(1,026).
Senior
Lauren Hedrick leads the women’s all-around
(735), is second in breakaway roping (335) and
third in goat tying (400). Junior Natasha Parker
leads in breakaway roping (350).
In the men’s
standings, Reynolds is second in bull riding
(345), while freshman Tyler Earwood is 11th
(105). Senior Tyler Pearson (560) and Napp (505)
are first and second, respectively, in steer
wrestling, while Bledsoe is fifth (285) in
bareback riding. Cavataio rounds out the
standings in 11th in tie-down roping
(150).
The Tiger
wranglers are off until March, when they travel
to compete in the University of Arkansas at
Monticello Rodeo in Pine Bluff, Ark. |
