LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University
of West Alabama rodeo team will open the
chutes on the 2008-09 season this
weekend in Marshall, Mo., participating
in the Missouri Valley College Rodeo
Stampede. Events will get underway on
Thursday, Sept. 11 and run through
Saturday, Sept. 13.
UWA
head coach Chad Phipps enters his second
season directing the rodeo program. The
Tiger wranglers finished fourth in the
Ozark Region on the women’s side while
the men placed eighth in the region.
Christi Heisman, who placed 15th
in the nation at the National Collegiate
Rodeo Finals in the goat tying
competition, returns to lead the women’s
squad. Heisman also finished third in
the Ozark Region in the same
competition.
Phipps welcomes six newcomers to the
men’s team along with returning members
Daniel Poole and Justin Caylor. Poole
placed seventh in the region in bull
riding a season ago. Caylor turned in a
seventh-place region finish in the
saddle bronc riding.
Following this weekend’s action, UWA
returns to competition on Sept. 25-27 at
the Southern Arkansas Rodeo. The Tigers
will host the UWA Rodeo on Oct. 9-11 at
the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex in
Livingston.
