CASPER, Wyo. – University of West
Alabama junior Cristi Heisman finished 15th
in the nation in the goat-tying competition
while UWA senior Natasha Parker maintained
the top spot in the breakaway average.
Parker will vie for the national title on
Saturday at the Collegiate National Finals
Rodeo at the Casper Events Center.
Heisman
posted a 7.2 in the third round of the event
on Friday at the CNFR. The top 12
competitors advance to Saturday’s short-go.
She combined for a 24.0 in the average.
Parker
came into the third round atop the
leaderboard in the average breakaway and
maintained that spot with a mark of 2.8 in
the third go. She holds a 9.0 average
heading into the final attempt.
“If she
(Natasha) continues to do what she has done
all week, she will be the national champion
in the breakaway,” said UWA rodeo coach Chad
Phipps. “She has handled herself like a
professional this week and I am proud of
her.”
The
CNFR is in its 10th year in
Casper, Wyo. at the Casper Events Center.
The National Intercollegiate Rodeo
Association crowns individual event
champions in saddle bronc riding, bare back
riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer
wrestling, team roping, barrel racing,
breakaway roping, and goat tying. National
team championships are also awarded to both
