LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– Looking to gain a split in the opening weekend of
Gulf South Conference play, the University of West
Alabama men’s basketball team will travel to West
Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip off is set for 6:30
p.m. CST at The Coliseum on the UWG campus. The UWA-UWG
tilt will be aired on WZNJ 106.5 FM following the
women’s contest.
UWA (6-8, 0-1 GSC)
dropped its conference opener on Thursday night to GSC
East favorite North Alabama, 80-64. The Tigers led
29-28 at the intermission, but the Lions put together a
52-point second half performance to overcome the
halftime deficit.
Junior forward
Jason Swanson turned in his third double-double of the
season with a 16 point, 11 rebound effort in the
setback. His 11 boards tied a season-best mark for the
Troy, Ala.-native. Junior forward Jonathan Griffin was
credited with 14 points while Brandon Hampton added ten
points off the bench.
The Wolves of UWG
(3-11, 0-1 GSC) will also be searching for their first
conference win of the season after dropping a 74-65
decision to Montevallo. Saturday’s contest marks the
second men’s game played in the recently opened Coliseum
on the UWG campus. The Coliseum seats 6,790 in its
basketball configuration. This includes 730 chair seats
directly behind the benches and scorer’s table.
Elsewhere, the building has 5,952 bleacher-style seats,
and 108 spaces for wheelchairs and folding chairs.
Following the UWG tilt, the Tigers
return to Pruitt Hall for the first time in 2009,
hosting Concordia of Selma on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip
