LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– Looking to bounce back from a pair of narrow
setbacks, the University of West Alabama men’s
basketball team returns to Pruitt Hall on Thursday, Jan.
29, against in-state rival Montevallo. Tip off is set
for 7:30 p.m. The GSC East battle will be available on
the B2 Network along with live stats at
athletics.uwa.edu.
The Tigers (8-11,
1-4 GSC) dropped back-to-back decisions to Valdosta
State and West Florida by an average of 3.5 points last
weekend. UWA came up short against the Blazers, 71-68,
in Meridian, Miss. on Friday night before falling 71-67,
to UWF on Sunday afternoon. The Purple and Gold clad
Falcons enter the contest with an 11-10 overall mark and
a 3-2 record in league play. UM has won its last three
contests, including a 79-63 win over VSU on Sunday.
A pair of Tigers
currently sport double digit scoring averages, led by
junior forward Jason Swanson. Swanson is tops on the
team in scoring with a 14.6 average. Senior Jamaine
Nance registers 10.7 points per contest. Swanson, who
hails from Troy, Ala., is riding an 11-game double digit
scoring streak, dating back to the Miles College game on
Dec. 13. Swanson also leads the Red and White in
rebounds, pulling down 8.2 boards per contest. In
conference play only, Swanson is one rebound shy of
averaging a double-double (13.8 points, 9.4 rebounds).
Following Thursday’s GSC tilt, UWA
will step out of conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 4,
closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule
against Southeastern Bible College. The Tigers routed
SEBC, 91-67, earlier this season in Birmingham, Ala.
