Tigers Rout Southeastern Bible, 91-67

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team closed out the pre-holiday schedule with a 91-67 win over Southeastern Bible College on Saturday night.  The contest was played at Samford University’s Seibert Hall.

The Tigers (5-6) out-scored the Sabers 49-32 in the second half after leading at the intermission 42-35.  UWA built its lead out to double digits by the 16:32 mark of the final half and lead by as many as 20 points, 69-49, with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game.  In the second half, UWA connected on 24-of-33 (60 percent) from the field and limited SEBC to just 11 made shots, six of which came from behind the three-point line.  Junior Brandon Hampton, who shared top-scoring honors with UWA junior Jason Swanson, posted 15 of his 21 points in the final period.  The Madison, Ala.-native drained 7-of-9 from the field and pulled down six of his team-best 14 rebounds in the second half.  He secured his second double-double of the season.  Swanson, who reached double figures by halftime with 13 points, also turned in a double-double with ten boards.

SEBC (4-9) held its own with the Tigers in the first half and held its largest lead of five points on five occasions with the last lead of 21-16 at the 9:08 mark of the first half.  UWA used a 16-10 run over the final 6:38 to take the seven point lead into the halftime break. 

Along with Hampton’s and Swanson’s 21-point efforts, three other Tigers were credited with double digit scoring marks.  Junior Herman Mains finished with 14 points and dished out five assists in the affair.  Junior Jamaine Nance carded 11 points along with five assists and a team-high two steals.  Lucas Hall added ten points in the win.

As a team, UWA turned in a season-best 53 rebounds along with 22 assists.

SEBC was lead by Daniel Hudson with 17 points.  Hudson finished 5-of-8 from behind the three-point arc.

The Tigers will break for the holiday period before returning to competition on Monday, Dec. 29 against NCAA Division I foe Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala.  Tip off is set for 7 p.m. against the Hornets.
