LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team
moved to 8-8 on the season with a 67-59 non-conference
home win over Concordia College on Wednesday night at a
packed Pruitt Hall.
The Tigers rode the
shoulders of their leading scorer, Jason Swanson, who
turned in a double-double performance with a game-high
21 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. The Troy,
Ala.-forward also dished out five assists along with a
block and steal.
After a deadlock
28-28 halftime score, UWA jumped out to its only
double-digit lead at 43-32 with 15:55 left in the
contest. The Red and White went on a 13-4 run to open
the final period. The Hornets of CC swarmed back into
the contest, trimming the UWA margin down to a basket at
the 7:17 mark of the half. Concordia got within a point
on two occasions down the stretch. After the Green and
Gold trailed 53-52 with 4:03 remaining, Tiger senior
Jamaine Nance drove for a lay up and connected on a pair
of free throws to give UWA a five-point edge with 2:26
left on the clock. Nance finished with nine points in
the eight-point win.
Junior Dominique
Coleman and Brandon Hampton added 12 points apiece.
Hampton also grabbed eight rebounds in the affair. As a
team, UWA shot 50 percent from the field while holding
Concordia to just 33 percent shooting. The Tigers
out-rebounds the Hornets 43-29.
John Nixon and
Kalee Tyler posted 12 points each to pace the Hornets.
UWA jumps back into GSC activity on
Saturday, Jan. 17, hosting in-state foe UAH. Tip off
for the GSC home opener is set for 5 p.m. |
