LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Playing on the
home floor for the first time since Nov.
24, the University of West Alabama men’s
basketball team returns to Pruitt Hall
on Wednesday, Dec. 17, to host Clark
Atlanta University. Tip off is set for
7 p.m. on the UWA campus.
UWA
(4-5) will look to get to the .500 mark
after claiming wins over Saint Leo and
Miles in its last two outings on the
hardwood. The Panthers of CAU enter the
contest with a 3-2 mark on the season
after topping Carver Bible College 98-83
on Dec. 6. The Tigers own a 5-0 overall
mark against CAU, including a 66-61 win
at CAU last season.
A
trio of Tigers currently average double
figures in scoring, led by junior
forward Jason Swanson’s team-best 13.6
scoring mark. Junior Jonathan Griffin
compliments Swanson in the paint with a
12.2 points per game average. The
Marrero, La.-native bolstered his
scoring clip with a 28-point performance
against Miles last Saturday. Griffin
posted 22 of his game-high 28 points in
the second half to pace the Tigers to a
13-point, 82-69, win on the road.
Senior Jamaine Nance enters the final
home contest of 2008 with an 11.7
scoring average. As a team, UWA
continues to control the rebounds
against its foes, out-rebounding the
opposition in seven of the nine games
this season.
UWA
and CAU mirror each other in a pair of
statistical categories entering the
mid-week affair. Through nine games,
UWA tallies 65.2 points on scoreboard
while CAU averages 66.0 points per
contest. The Red and White hold a +4.3
rebounding margin over its opponents
while the Panthers pull down a +4.4
rebounds per game.
Following the CAU contest, the Tigers
will travel to Birmingham, Ala. on
Saturday, Dec. 20 to face Southeastern
Bible College. Tip off is set for 7:30
p.m. at Samford University’s Seibert
Hall.
