Live Stats

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team dropped a one-point, 58-57, decision to Tusculum in the opening game of the Jameson Inn Classic at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn.

UWA (2-2), which led the game from the 16:17 mark of the opening half, relinquished the lead with just ten seconds left in the contest after TC’s Ryan Troutman hit a jumper in the final seconds for the go-ahead basket.  The Tigers led by as many as 11 points in the opening half and took a seven-point, 30-23 lead into the halftime break.  The Red and White opened the margin out to eight points at the 10:45 mark of the final period.

The Pioneers (3-1) started the comeback after trailing by seven with just under four minutes left in the contest.  TC finished with a 9-4 scoring run to erase the UWA lead.  The Tigers held a four-point lead with under a minute to play, but TC’s Kyle Moore drained a three-pointer to get within one before Troutman’s basket.

UWA posted a better shooting percentage, connecting on 44 percent from the field, while TC registered a 41 percent shooting night.  Both teams took advantage of the free throw line with the Red and White hitting 11-of-12 from the line, while TC connected on 13-of-18 from the charity stripe.  The Tigers were credited with a season-low eight turnovers in the setback and were out-rebounded for the first time this season (33-24).

Junior Jason Swanson turned in a double-double with a team-best 19 points and 11 rebounds.  He pulled down ten of his 11 on the defensive end of the floor.  Junior Brandon Hampton finished with 12 points and three steals.  Junior Jamaine Nance added nine points in the contest.

Moore led the Pioneers in scoring with 19 points.
