CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Alabama
men’s basketball team picked up its
second-straight Gulf South Conference
road victory with a 67-66 win over West
Georgia at the HPE Building on the UWG
campus. The win avenges a 13-point
victory by the Wolves over the Tigers at
Pruitt Hall on Jan. 14.
The
Tigers (9-14, 2-6 GSC) survived a last
minute surge by the Wolves to hold on
for its second GSC win of the season,
both coming on the road. UWA took its
first lead of the final half of the
contest at 43-42 with just over 15
minutes remaining in the game. UWA
extended the lead out to as many as nine
at the 11:52 mark. The Red and White
would nurse the lead the rest of the way
as the Wolves got within a single point
at 61-60. Junior Brian Murphy drained a
critical basket to push the lead out to
three before junior Kevin Johnson
connected on two free throws to extend
the lead back out to five points with
under a minute to play.
Chris Malone led four Tigers in double
figures with 14 points in the contest.
Abdoulaye N’diaye was credited with a
conference-season best 11 points.
Juniors Maurice Naylor and Murphy each
added 10 points in the win. Johnson led
the team in rebounds, tying a
season-high with 11 in the affair.
The Tigers look to
extend its two-game GSC road game
winning streak to three on Monday, Feb.
18, trekking to Huntsville to square off
with UAH. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
