UWA Takes On West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team will travel to Carrollton, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 16, to face West Georgia in Gulf South Conference action.  The Tigers will look to earn a season split with the Wolves after UWG topped UWA 77-64 earlier in the GSC campaign at Pruitt Hall.  Tip off is set for 6:30 CST.  The game can be heard on the official radio station for UWA Athletics – Y 104.9.

UWA, winners in three of its last four games, enter the contest with an 8-14 overall record and 1-6 mark in league activity.  The Tigers are coming off an 86-68 setback to North Alabama last Monday night.  Prior to the UNA loss, the Red and White put together a string of three straight wins.  Over the four game stretch, the Tigers have averaged 74 points per contest while holding the opposition to just 68 points on the scoreboard.  UWA is connecting on 49 percent shooting from the field along with pulling down 38 rebounds a contest.  The Tigers have averaged double figures in the scorebook, led by senior Michael Billings’ 13.3 scoring clip.  Junior Maurice Naylor and Brian Murphy posted 12.8 and 10.8 points respectively in the last four games.  On the season, junior Kevin Johnson leads all Tiger scorers with a 9.7 point per game average.

The Wolves of UWG, who are in a log-jammed second place spot in the GSC East with Valdosta State and UAH, enter the dual with UWA having claimed a thrilling 79-78 win over Valdosta State on Monday night to propel the Wolves into a second-place tie.  UWG is led by current GSC East Player of the Week, Paul Harper.  Harper scored a team-high 22 points versus West Florida and was credited with 23 points in the VSU win.

UWA continues road activity on Monday, Feb. 18, traveling to Huntsville, Ala. with a GSC tilt with UAH.  Tip off between the Chargers and Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m.
