ARKADELPHIA,
Ark. – The University of West Alabama dropped its
second straight game in Gulf South Conference action on
Thursday night as the Tigers suffered a 38-6 setback to
Henderson State in the GSC-TV Game of the Week.
UWA’s lone
touchdown came by way of the defense. Jacobi Avery
picked off an HSU pass at the Reddie 21-yard line and
returned it for the only points for the Tigers.
HSU scored 25 unanswered
points in the second half to claim the win.
HSU quarterback
Garett Manning rushed for two touchdowns, one by way of
a fake punt run of 49 yards for the final touchdown of
the night. He also threw for a touchdown in the
victory. Manning finished with 135 yards passing and
tallied 84 yards rushing.
The Tigers
mustered up just 194 total yards on offense compared to
HSU’s 405 total yards. Cole Mason led the UWA ground
attack for the third-straight week with 69 yards on 18
carries. Quarterback Kurt Kennedy totaled 42 yards
passing on eight attempts. Defensively, senior Alvin
Garrett led all UWA defenders with eight tackles
UWA returns home
next week, Sept. 29, as it welcomes Harding University
to Tiger Stadium. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. |
