UWA Returns to Action at West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend, as the Tigers (1-4, 0-3 GSC) travel to Carrollton, Ga. for the 25th consecutive meeting with West Georgia. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central at Grisham Stadium.

West Georgia holds the all-time series lead at 16-8 entering this Saturday night contest. A series that began in 1983 saw UWA claim six of the first 10 meetings, including UWA’s first and only win in Carrollton in 1991. West Alabama downed the Wolves last season in Livingston 24-14, marking the Tigers’ fifth victory of the season and snapped a two-game losing streak in the conference and a three-game losing skid to the Wolves in the series.

UWA enters the conference clash coming off a mid-season open date, after falling 36-35 to Harding at Tiger Stadium. The Wolves are also entering the game after dropping a 49-31 game against Harding last Thursday on the GSC Game of the Week.

The Tigers rank third in the conference in rushing offense with 210.2 yards per game, led by Cole Mason who is ranked first in the conference in scoring (8.4) and third in the conference in rushing yards per game (98.6) and rushing yards (493). UWG quarterback Keats Baldwin leads the fourth ranked passing offense in the GSC with 181.6 per game.

The West Alabama, West Georgia kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. The game will be carried on WSLY Radio, Gospel Hits Y-104.9 FM and also on athletics.uwa.edu.
