LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team returns
to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, as the Tigers
(2-2, 1-1 Gulf South Conference) host #1
Valdosta State in GSC play. Kickoff is scheduled
for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on WZNJ
106.5-FM and athletics.uwa.edu, plus streamed
over the internet on the B2 Network.
Saturday’s contest marks the 27th meeting in the
series, which began in 1982 in Valdosta, Ga. and
the 13th contest between the two
schools in Livingston, Ala.
UWA enters the contest after snapping a
two-game, losing streak with a 17-14 double
overtime win over Southern Arkansas in the GSC-TV
Game of the Week. The win also stopped a
10-game, conference losing streak that dated
back to Oct. 28, 2006. Mitch Warfield kicked the
game winning field goal from a season long, 33
yards, giving the Tigers their first conference
win of the year.
VSU (3-0, 1-0 GSC) rolls in on an 11-game, win
streak, dating back to last season, which ended
with a National Championship. The Blazers
rallied to defeat Ouachita Baptist last week,
29-6, to earn its first conference win of the
season. VSU trailed 3-2 at the half, but
outscored OBU 27-3 in the second stanza behind
four touchdowns by Chris Hart.
Following Saturday’s contest, West Alabama will
begin a three-game, road trip, as the Tigers
travel to Selma, Ala. to face Concordia College
in non-conference action. Kickoff is scheduled
for 2:00 p.m
