LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team picked up its
fifth victory of the season, as the Tigers dropped West
Georgia 24-14 Thursday evening at Tiger Stadium.
The win snapped a
two-game losing streak in the Gulf South Conference and
a three-game losing skid to the Wolves in the series.
West Alabama posted
all 24-points in the first half of the game, scoring
first on a 70-yard touchdown pass from James Reiter to
Edward Pearce with 33-seconds remaining in the opening
quarter.
The Tiger offense
would strike three times in three minutes in the second
quarter to pull away from West Georgia.
Mitch Warfield would
connect on a 32-yard field goal with 2:59 remaining in
the opening half. Just under two minutes later Jerin
Wright would take 24-yard run to the end zone to give
UWA a 17-0 lead.
Wright would finish
the game with 135 yards rushing.
UWA’s final score of
the half would come on a 46-yard fumble recovery
returned for a touchdown by Michael Mitchell with
29-second left.
UWG would break into
the scoreboard with 10:14 remaining in the game on a
7-yard pass from Ryan Poole to Johnny Williams.
The Wolves would post
their second touchdown of the game with 30-seconds
remaining, as Poole would find James Kennebrew for an
8-yard strike.
Lewis Thompson and
Kidane McBride recorded 10 tackles each to lead the UWA
defense.
West Alabama returns
to action, Saturday, October 21, as the Tigers visit
Valdosta State. The road trip is the first of three for
the Tigers away from Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is slated
for 12:00 p.m.
