LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama concluded its first winning
season in 14 years with a 45-3 loss to in-state and
conference rival North Alabama Saturday at Tiger
Stadium.
“I’m proud of how we played this
season,” UWA head coach Bobby Wallace said. “I’m sorry
we couldn’t send the seniors out on a winning note in
the last game, but they helped us lay the groundwork for
winning seasons ahead.
“We claimed the first winning
season in West Alabama’s history (since the name change)
and these seniors have that to be proud of, along with
the rest of the team,” said Wallace.
West Alabama finished the night
with 168 yards of total offense behind 70 yards rushing
from Jerin Wright, who finished his career at UWA as the
second leading rusher in school history with 2,030
career yards.
UWA found itself in a hole early,
as the Lions posted two touchdowns behind the rushing of
Eric Parker. Parker would finish the game with three,
touchdown scores and 113 yards rushing.
The Tigers found their way on the
scoreboard on a 27-yard field goal from Mitch Warfield.
UNA would find its way on the
scoreboard one more time before the end of the quarter
on a 53-yard, touchdown run by Tim Hicks.
The Lions would score four more
times in the game to earn the victory over West Alabama.
Defensively, the Tigers were led by
seniors Lewis Thompson and Kidane McBride. Thompson
finished with 12 tackles on the evening, as McBride
tallied 10 for the UWA. |
