LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama football team returns to
action Saturday, as the Tigers travel to
Arkansas-Monticello in search of their sixth win of the
season.
“We are trying to do
something special here,” UWA head coach Bobby Wallace
said. “The guys have played hard this season. The sixth
win would give UWA something it hasn’t had in a long
time, a winning season.”
A win would give UWA
its first winning season since 1992 and snap a 10-game,
road, conference losing streak that dates back to 2004
against the Boll Weevils.
Saturday’s contest
will feature two teams trying to recover from setbacks
last weekend. The Tigers fell 16-14 at #14 Valdosta
State, as UAM helped West Georgia break a six-game skid,
falling 20-14 in double overtime.
UWA brings the ninth
ranked, rushing offense in the country into the game, as
the Tigers are averaging 218.5 yards per game. Jerin
Wright, the second leading rusher in the Gulf South
Conference, paces the rushing attack for UWA with 551
yards on the season.
The Homecoming kickoff
between West Alabama and Arkansas-Monticello is slated
3:00 p.m. at Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium. The game
can be heard on WZNJ 106.5 FM or at
