LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– A valiant fourth quarter charge by the West Alabama
Tigers came up short in a 44-36 setback to the
University of Arkansas at Monticello on Thursday night
at Tiger Stadium.
UWA final drive
stalled at the UAM 41 after a James Reiter pass to
Tyrone Tomlin came up inches short of extending the
potential game-tying drive. The Tiger defense turned
away the Boll Weevils on back-to-back possessions late
in the final period. The Green and Black missed two
field goals down the stretch to give the Tigers life in
the final moments of the televised contest. UWA gave up
a season-high 44 points, but posted a season-high in
points.
The Tigers trailed
44-28 after UAM’s quarterback Scott Buisson threw his
fourth touchdown of the night to Jywin Ceasar. Buisson
also scored two touchdowns on the ground with runs of 40
and four. He finished the contest with 434 total yards
– 308 passing, 126 on the ground. The Red and White
trimmed the margin to eight at the 14:33 mark in the
final period after Tomlin scored from five yards out.
The scoring run was the second of the final half for the
Bay City, Fla.-native. He turned in a 49-yard run on
the opening drive of the second half for UWA. Tomlin
led the Tiger ground attack, reaching the 100-yard mark
on 10 carries. It marks his third game this season to
post 100 yards or more.
In what was a
back-and-forth affair in the opening half, UAM took a
30-21 lead into the dressing room with a late scoring
drive after the Tigers scored at the 2:05 mark in the
second quarter on six-yard touchdown plunge by junior
Cole Mason. The Boll Weevils opened the game with a
touchdown on a fourth and one play that Buisson turned
into points on a fake punt. UWA knotted the game at 7-7
when Terry Allen punched it in from three yards out.
UAM’s Ceasar hauled in his first of three touchdown
receptions. Allen evened the score on a 46-yard scamper
to close out the first quarter scoring. A UWA special
teams miscue resulted in two points for UAM and
Buisson’s four-yard scoring run finished up the scoring
in the opening stanza.
UWA will celebrate
Homecoming next week, hosting No. 5 Delta State on
Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. |
